Tree Planting - Nov 2025

There was a tree planting work party on 1st November 2025. Thirteen keen tree planters turned up and quickly got stuck into planting 33 trees of various species around the site. 

A few days before the chosen tree planting date it looked like it was going to be a wet one, but on the day by 7.30 am the black clouds were heading away to the east and we had sunshine. Once again the Friends of Hampshire Meadow had organised good weather! Ten of the trees were put in as replacements for ones that had succumbed to the summer drought. This year we picked a slightly earlier date, meaning the ground had been softened up by the autumn rain, but was not waterlogged. The soil was also still warm, so the trees have a good chance to get their roots down into the ground before they shut down for the winter. By noon all the trees were planted, staked and had a cage fitted around them to protect them from any possible deer damage.
